Delilah Interview

Tuesday 22nd January 2013 | Osh

In celebration of The BRITs 2013 MasterCard is giving fans the chance to star as Rita Ora, Delilah and Conor Maynard in their own Priceless Remake video and meet their idols at the BRIT Awards. We caught up with the beautiful talented singer/ songwriter ahead of this to get the latest on the project, her new album and touring with Chase and Status.

So first of all are you looking forward to working on this project with The BRITs and MasterCard?
Oh definitely I think its gonna be a lot of fun for the fans, I mean it’s a really exciting opportunity, not only do they get to film their music video and have a laugh but they get the whole crew, make-up, hair and work with an amazing director then go on TV. They also get to come to The Brits!! I feel like it’s a really special prize.

Who would be your idol, who you would like to star as if you were in your own Priceless Remake video?
I think it would have to be Michael Jackson, I just feel like that would be a really fun video to do, lots of dancing and every one is dressed up, yeah that looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Are you hopeful of a BRIT nomination next year?
2012 has been amazing for me and you never know...fingers crossed for next year.

Your name is Paloma Ayana, why do you go under the name Delilah?
Well, firstly Paloma Faith was already about but I guess for the same reason a lot of artists change there name Adele is not actually called Adele, Emeli Sandé is not Emeli Sandé...the name Delilah is also my grandmas name so it means a lot to me. But that is who I am now.

Tell us about about your debut album From The Roots Up?
The album is about a lot of things, falling out of love, falling in love, but it was definitely a struggle to put that album together, because I had grown up so much in the time that it was made that I didn’t want the album to sound like two different people. So it took a lot of effort to come up with the sound and to make the songs that I wrote and 14 with the songs that I wrote at like 18 stick together.

Do you come from a musical background?
Yes and no, my family are definitely musical they worked in and around the music industry in the 90s and I was always surrounded by musical beings, out at music nights, and music would always be playing loudly in and around our house, it’s a cool background that I come from but neither of my parents could play a musical instrument.

You went on tour with Chase and Status- you must of had a lot of fun?!
It was amazing! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, no one can prepare you for life on the road with 18 men so yeah it was amazing. But it was definitely a struggle and a learning curve one of those things rolled into one, but I got very used to it and it sort of almost felt weird to not be on tour, so I'm definitely grateful.

If you were invisible for the day, what trouble would you get up to?
If I was invisible for a day...Ooooh I don’t know there would be too much to do in one day, I guess I would spy on a world leader or maybe the royal family, they would  probably be all together playing poker or something...haha.

What is the most exciting thing that you are looking forward to this year?
Releasing my next record and producing it first and foremost but I’ve been working on it for a few months now and I’m just really excited to be realising that and getting it to the people.

Thanks for chatting to us!
Thank you.
