'Jamais Vu' Sun 18/11/12: Bailey Bounces The Bass

‘Jamais Vu’ Sunday 18/11/12: Bailey Funked Up Large Time

Bailey returned to the intimate Horse & Groom venue in Shoreditch last Sunday to ensure the last few hours of the week, and the first couple of the new, were seen off in sufficiently sick style. Sporting a giant bobble hat to counter the cold night air, the BBC Radio 1Xtra and ‘Jamais Vu’ resident touched down at the DJ booth on the stroke of midnight and instantly got the dancefloor buzzing with a classically dubby, jungly set. A particular highlight was the dropping of Roni Size’s old skool über-anthem ‘Bonanza Kid’ midway through proceedings.

Rolling through into Monday morning, Bailey closed his set to the warmest of receptions -rendering his bobble hat practically unnecessary in the end- and it was left to fellow resident Tendai to round off the night with a banging set of upfront drum ‘n’ bass and techy crowd-pleasers. Support was provided in a warm-up capacity by ‘JV’ regular Fly Marshall, who rolled out soulfully between 9 and 10; DJ Uno, who ramped up the vibe considerably with a more hard-edged, industrial sound prior to Bailey’s arrival; and newcomer Mac One, who kicked things off with a mix of classic and mellow vibes early doors. On a top hosting tip were MCs Prince, S1 and Melo D -with some cheeky filming thrown in throughout the night.

Popping up on the ‘Jamais Vu’ radar in the coming weeks are Grooverider, on the 25th November, and industry bigwigs Artificial Intelligence, who will no doubt bring even bigger crowds and more soulful basslines than ‘JV’ has ever seen. So, if you’ve ‘never seen’ A.I. live or if you just want to help champion the cause for making Sunday the new Friday, head down to ‘Jamais Vu’ on a Sunday soon!
