Red Bull Culture Clash returns...and it's going to be an absolute showstopper!
Red Bull’s third Culture Clash is finally here. November 7th is going to be an amazing day, and that’s due to one of the biggest and most anticipated musical events of the year. Following two hugely successful events, The Guestlist Network is glad to say that here, in London, we’re lucky to host these spectacular musical battles for a night. A series of warm-up events have already been held in Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and Newcastle, but next month is the big finale of the Red Bull Culture Clash.
Suitably, such a night will be held at the historically famous and grand Wembley Arena; four stages will host four crews but only one will reign supreme. Having previously been held at the legendary Camden Roundhouse in 2010, this year’s Culture Clash in a new, bigger venue will be bigger and better. We’ve been patient, and after 2 years of waiting, we’re ecstatic that it’s back. Previous competitors have featured the legendary Goldie and the Soul II Soul crew, and this year, the line-up has kept up the tempo and does not fail to impress.
Each of the four crews in the Culture Clash will be displaying their own takes and spins on UK bass music. This year’s event will be home to a mélange of loads of different musical genres, comprising of Reggae, Garage, Dubstep, Grime and UK House, and performed for you, by some of the most acclaimed and respected soundsystems in the game.
So what are the rules of the Red Bull Culture Clash? Here’s a low-down on what to expect:
The Culture Clash is founded on the original Jamaican soundclash, in which opposing soundsystems try to impress the crowds with as many of their best tracks as they can, in a limited timeframe. Some tracks will even have been recorded exclusively for the soundclash, and the soundclash culture has been celebrated in Britain for decades, most famously at Notting Hill Carnival. So there you are, simples. But the Red Bull Culture Clash has a few more tricks in store...
Hosted by Radio 1Xtra’s Tim Westwood and Gemma Cairney, things kick off with a warm-up round from 7pm, and the main rounds from 8pm.
1) The ‘NO ELIMINATION’ Round
Each artist will play a selection as a warm up for the rest of the night, and to gage crowd reaction.
2) The ‘SELECTOR’ Round
Who has the best selector? The crowd will decide as the soundsystems go head to head.
3) The ‘SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY’ Round
One of the most controversial, unpredictable and exciting rounds of the Culture Clash: artists will play tracks from their competing soundsystems’ genres.
4) The ‘DECIDER’ Round
This will be the time for the soundsystems to dig deep for the biggest tunes in their record bags, for their final chance to win over the audience. At the end of this round, the crowd will be asked to scream, shout, holler, whoop, whistle, stamp their vote...anything goes! The Red Bull Culture Clash winner will be decided, with a decibel metre will be on hand to help the hosts decide upon the winner.
5) The ‘CROWNING’
The winning crew will play out the night with their victory set.
And last, but by no means least, here is the jaw-droppingly exciting, too-good-to-be-true (but is actually true) line-up:
