Outlook and Dimension Round Up 2012.

So, we’ve had a few weeks to recover from a mad two weeks in Croatia. And when I say mad, I mean really, really crazy. The Outlook crew more than delivered this year with a double whammy of festival frolics. Whilst Outlook is well established as a massive player in the festival scene, the launch of little brother Dimensions was eagerly anticipated to see what the Outlook boys could deliver in the way of a smaller festival with a much closer focus on electronic and house music. And oh boy did they do well. The setting of Fort Punto Christo really was breathtaking and with the combination of some absolutely incredible music, perfect vibes and sunshine (let’s forget the few thunderstorms during outlook) I have to say the two weeks were unforgettable.
The thing that makes Outlook, and now Dimensions, unlike any other festival primarily is the setting, an abandoned fortress overlooking the stunning Adriatic Sea, an English Health and Safetyman’s dream, because without a doubt this festival would not be able to go ahead here. Scaling stone staircases and the likes when royally fucked just adds to the fun. Secondly, the beach and boat parties add to the vibes and intimacy of both festivals, with big name acts playing to small crowds on a boat in the middle of the big blue sea…PERFECT. A highlight from Outlook has to be from the Black Butter Records boat party, where Kidnap Kid and Rudimental played a 3-hour long live set with vocalist John Newman in attendance to perform hit “feel the love” live. As per usual, the Disclosure boys smashed it on the Friday night on the main Harbour stage, dropping one of their latest tunes “Latch” for the first time live. The mix of house, drum and bass, dubstep, reggae and dancehall means that whatever mood you’re in, at whatever time of day there’s always something to go and bust some moves to or to chill out on the beach to. One of the best-kept secrets of Fort Punto Christo is the Lighthouse Bar, which is there all year round but comes alive during the festivals. The cliff top setting with views over the sea, a reggae soundsystem and cheap drinks the bar is one of the coolest places to head to either before heading out or after a messy night for a chill. After 6 messy days at Outlook, a three day break was more than needed to recuperate and reminisce before doing it all again for Dimensions.
The beach was still vibing the whole week and warming up for a jam-packed weekend of the biggest and best names in the electronic and house scene. With the loss of the two main Outlook stages, the site became much more intimate to accommodate the smaller crowd, and was completely revamped for the festival with incredible art work and light projections that added immensely to the atmosphere. The vibe seemed much more chilled out, which was a nice change after the hectic-ness of Outlook. Top performances from the weekend came from Theo Parrish who absolutely blew the crowd away, whilst Huxley threw down some absolute tunes, one in particular being a Julio Bashmore remix of Bobby Womack’s “love is gonna lift you up” that got the crowd going crazy. The perfect end to the final night in the main arenas was Dub Phizix closing down the Mungo’s HiFi arena, with the sun coming up overhead. The Boat Parties were again a highlight of the festival, with the Zleep boys providing an incredible few sets from Objekt, all while the beers were flowing and the sun was setting in the background. All in all, Outlook smashed it, Dimensions smashed it and we definitely smashed it (I’m feeling it now though) and we will no doubt be back again next year.
