Iran bans Women From Attending University
Friday 24th August 2012 | Osh
Universities in Iran have just announced that dozens of academic programs will now only be available to men banning all women from degrees including English, Business Management and Science. And their excuse for this ridiculously chauvinist decision? Too many women were left jobless after finishing their degree, funnily enough women weren’t a hit in the engineering industry in Iran. Shocker.
Female students have even outperformed men with a ratio of 3:2 in passing their year’s university entrance exam. I have a feeling the male’s ego has been dented, resulting in the outrageous new law. It doesn’t come as a surprise however, as the government continuously attack and criticise feminists and the women’s movements which has seen a considerable number of women activists fleeing the country last year.
Iran’s most celebrated human rights campaigner, Shirin Ebadi, has urged the UN to probe the ban. She claims that the real agenda was to reduce the proportion of female students to below 50%, from 65% at present, to weaken the Iranian feminist movement against discriminatory Islamic laws.
Ladies, get your bra and match at hand, give this ban some hype to show some support to your fellow females.
