Kendal Calling 2012 Preview. Friday 29th June 2012 | Osh The Lake District is well known for being one of the most beautiful places in the world, that’s why the continuous support and love for Kendal Calling which takes place right at its gateway is so brilliant. Attracting all walks of life from various ends of the musical spectrum, this relatively new and independently run festival has had people returning from the very beginning. It all started six years ago as a tiny, 900 people music event, it now attracts over 15,000 people yearly and a huge variety of different acts. It has moved from the green fields of Kendal to the historic Lowther estates near the town of Penrith. The joys of small, more intimate festivals for me is not feeling like your being sold at a cattle market, acquiring a drink within five minutes of deciding you want one and never missing an act because you don’t have to go round by Timbuktu to get to the next stage. Whether you’re looking to get away for a girly weekend or fancy taking your young family along, there really is something for everyone. Past years have seen performances from the likes of Blondie, Calvin Harris and House of Pain. As the cliche goes, 2012 promises to be bigger than ever, with the three headliners being Jamies, Dizee Rascal and Maximo Park. Traditional, rural entertainment and contemporary arts are alwats at the centre of this innovative festival. As someone that lives very locally to the area, im proud to live in a town that temporarily becomes home to Kendal Calling. #seeyouinthefields For more information on the area or the full lineup for Kendal Calling 2012 visit www.kendalcalling.co.uk.
