Drakes dance on stage and take Nambucca by storm

Indie | Thursday 7th June 2012 | Osh

I will come clean and be blatantly honest with you all; I went to the Nambucca expecting very little in the way of great bands. Sure there would be the showing of talented musicians, but nothing that would shine to the point of leaving me speechless. I was most certainly wrong.
This was The Drakes first headlining act, and it would be fair to say that they smashed. With the folk aspect of Noah and the Whale, yet maintaining a British Rock style reminiscent of The Libertines creates a style that is both breath-taking and unique. The Oxfordshire based band bounded on stage with excitement and intensity, stirring the crowd into a whirlwind of exuberance.
The band has very much come from ordinary settings. All students, with their own busy day to day lives, yet displaying a passion and talent for music that allows The Drakes to stand alone from the rest. The catchy and unique track that is “What do I Know” boomed around the room sparking life into the evening and listeners. As some enthusiasts at the front danced holding a British flag with “The Drakes” printed in the middle, I could not help but think that the future of British Rock seems in safe hands.
The Drakes are by no means big, and having formed just over a year ago are definitely on the way up, displaying all the characteristics of a great up and coming band. Following their first headlining act, many more have presented themselves to these rising stars, most notably the headline act at Dublin Castle on 7th August. I am confident in saying this will be a night not to miss, with a great venue combined with exciting young bands.
