Hey how's things were are you at the moment?
Hey its Brian, I'm pretty good thanks we just played a radio show and now we are driving down to play a show in New York City.
Sounds like your having a lot of fun!
Yeah a busy day but it’s all good!
You both grew up in California, how was it for you?
Great we had kinda different childhoods like for me it was straight suburbia and hanging out with friends playing music. Where with Madeline it was more of a down town urban environment.
How did you come to start making music together?
We just met at a show, I was good friends with her brother before I met Madeline and I would always joke saying that I would marry her one day and he didn’t like that very much! Eventually we ended up meeting at a show and I didn’t actually think it would happen but we hit it off and started dating and making music which is such a natural thing for us. Though we never knew that we were ever gonna start a band as we never had that conversation but we would write songs together and I suppose it just happened and before we knew it we were playing shows and releasing our tracks.
You both come from quite different musical backgrounds, what kind of effect does that have on your music do you think?
Well I think that because our families were so different as Madeline parents listened to old 80’s Punk and Disco..oh hang on no it’s not Disco she is shouting at me saying that she hates Disco!
Scrap that one then?!
Yeah its not Disco! But she grew up in a big musical house as her step dad was one of the founders of White Zombie and she had super cool music around her all time. Where I had to figure it out more by myself and it was a bit different. Though it’s good because on the one end we both discovered each other on some of the music that we really like and I think that a lot of the process of making a record was easing each other in different things and defining common ground.
How would you describe your sound?
Well obviously we’re really into a lot of 1960’s pop, we are both into a lot of British Post Punk bands, guitar noise and Indie and Electronic music.
Do you like the UK music?
Yeah absolutely and the British music scene is really exciting at the moment especially Electronic music.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I think we are pretty methodical about how we create and make our songs and I think that years of art school dragged into our heads that if you put things into sections then you can get things done. We like to draft things out, we usually have a rough idea of a song before we actually write it and what sort of sound it will be.
What can we expect from the new album?
Well I think if people are expecting it to sound like the first few tracks we put out then they are not going to be disappointed but hopefully they are going to be excited, there is definitely more experimentation and different direction. We always joked that we wanted to write a greatest hits album, it’s not one of those records in that your going to be confused in what track your on because it all sounds the same, its all pretty different. It was so awesome making the album and was one of the best experiences of my life, it’s so fun to sit there and be able to anything and have a bunch of time to create music.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
We are going to be playing Reading which is going to be awesome we are also actually going to be putting together a compilation album and we are going to be doing our own remixes of our songs, which is a bit un- traditional of us but pretty cool. So that’s gonna be fun and give us an opportunity to be put out more of our songs!
If you could have a swimming pool filled with anything what would it be?
I’m going to be a boring and say Jameson, because I think that would last forever!
If you were invisible for the day, what trouble would you get up to?!
Well jeez..I'm gonna get our bass player Nathan to answer this question!
I would probably just go up and start poking people in the head! I would just walk around all day and poke people in the back of the head!
Can you give us an exclusive?
We are going to get some hot dogs later and maybe some ice cream...yeah definitely some ice cream!!
