REVIEW: Fabric Live 59: Compiled & Mixed by Four Tet

Drum and Bass | Wednesday 14th September 2011 | Osh

Everybody is talking about this release right now, it’s the Fabric Live 59: Compiled and mixed by Four Tet. I’m a massive fan of the artist known as Four Tet (real name Keiran Hebden), he is an artist who experiments with sound, taking chances and has produced some fantastic results.

He has now compiled a new mix for the Fabric Live series; a DJ Mix led series that showcases music from artists that are making moves in the music scene, so I can imagine it is a very stressful time planning one of the most important mixes of your career, a mix you want to be remembered by basically.
So I’ve listened to this release about 5 times, walking around London, on the tubes, cycling around on Boris Bikes late at night, so what do I think of Four Tet’s Fabric Live?
I think it’s great to listen to but it requires more than just listening to the mix and forgetting about it. There is a whole other story behind the productions of this release, these are the songs that Kieran Hebden went out clubbing to, as he says himself, "This mix is not about my DJing.  It's about London and Fabric and nights out and my take on all that. The memories and the influences. I used old and new music, I used recordings of Fabric, and I made new tracks of my own for it.  I hope people play it fucking loud and lose their minds in it and remember or imagine what it's all about.”

I recommend this to anyone who is interested in the UK underground music scene! Here's a taster from the album!
