Tory MP Arrested In London On Suspicion Of Rape

Other | Thursday 4th December 2014 | Matt

Conservative MP Mark Pritchard has apparently been released on bail after handing himself in to police earlier this week, it has emerged. This morning, the Metropolitan Police released the following statement: "We can confirm that a 48-year-old man voluntarily attended a North London police station on Tuesday, 2 December where he was arrested, following an allegation of rape in central London [...] He has been bailed to a date in early January 2015 pending further enquiries."

The MP is no stranger to controversy, famously snapping at John Bercow "You are not fucking royalty, Mr Speaker!" after being asked to stand in the corridor during a parliamentary session back in 2010. Prior to these allegations his most egregious offence was his implication in a lobbying scandal exposed by undercover reporters at The Telegraph. The reporters were able to capture video evidence of their meetings in which Pritchard offered investors access to his global network of political contacts in exchange for £3000 and a 3% stake in their future projects. View their conversation here. You can also watch him tenuously dispute the claims on The Daily Politics, below:
