Farringdon's clubbing centre celebrates its fourteenth year in the game with a hugely exciting, star-studded dance music marathon - reckon you can make it to Monday morning?
Given the current clubbing climate in the capital, with new nights seemingly popping up everywhere just as others promptly collapse, London’s all-night venues have frequently been made the subject of grim post-mortem newspaper pieces which lament the death of the city’s superclub scene. With institutions such as Turnmills, The End and - most recently - Cable having all bitten the dust in recent years, the fact that any established venue has managed to survive such a period of clubland uncertainty should be applauded. As such, the news that Fabric - EC1’s bastion of all things bassy - has managed to make it to fourteen years old deserves a standing ovation.
Having ridden out a recession which hit the disposable income-driven nightlife industry very hard indeed, Fabric’s latest birthday bash should bring with it all the more cause for celebration - and it seems the capital’s definitive superclub feels the same, having procured a typically top class lineup of international DJs to play all across the expansive venue over the weekend of Friday October 18th right through to the morning of Monday the 21st.
As any true disciple of Fabric knows, Friday night is all about Fabriclive: dedicated to the art of serious bassweight in all its forms and tempos, the club’s birthday weekend kicks off as it means to go on, with a series of takeovers by bass music’s biggest names set across all three of the club’s main areas. Master of blend Oneman curates Room One to celebrate launch of Volume 2 in his Solitaire series, bringing with him J. Rocc, Lil Silva, Martelo and more, while Kasra’s revered drum and bass ensemble Critical Sound take over Room Two with Ed Rush, Enei, Dub Phizix, Foreign Concept, Ivy Lab and Emperor in tow. Room Three meanwhile is left in the ever-irresponsible hands of Manchester’s Hit & Run crew, headed up by Chimpo and Trigga with guest support from Acre, Leadbelly and Rich Reason.
Closing briefly to catch a breath the following day, once the club re-opens at 11pm on Saturday October 19th it will signal the start of a sensational thirty hour session of non-stop music all throughout the venue’s myriad caverns and tunnels. Intrepid punters can expect to find Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Ricardo Villalobos, Clockwork, Cosmin TRG, Marcel Dettmann (playing for five hours), No Regular Play (Live), PBR Streetgang, Skream, Soul Clap, Tama Sumo, Zip and even more waiting for them - full listings and logistics can be found on the official Fabric website.
Happy birthday dear Fabric - here’s to many more!
