YouTube scraps "unskippable" 30 second ads

Other | Monday 20th February 2017 | Idrees

Don’t you hate it when you find a video you really want to watch on YouTube, only to wait an extra 30 seconds, because of an advert that you probably aren’t even paying attention to?

Well if this is you, and I am 100 per cent sure everyone deals with this, then I have some good news for you. BBC Newsround programme has confirmation from Google that YouTube plans to scrap these “unskippable” 30 second advertisements.

Yes you read right, YouTube have announced that from 2018 they will be getting rid of those 30 second advertisements, which we all are unable to skip.

A spokesperson stated “We've decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.”

Now bear in mind that adverts are a big source of income for YouTube and video owners so adverts themselves are not being scrapped. But at least we do not have to sit and endure 30 second adverts anymore, which honestly feels like a life time.

Unfortunately we will still be seeing the adverts that allow us to skip after five seconds of viewing. But who knows what YouTube could scrap next, one step at a time.
