Crowdfunding: De La Soul’s new album

RnB/Hip Hop | Tuesday 7th April 2015 | Christina

De La Soul have decided the time is right for a follow up to 2004’s The Grind Date, and have launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover production, marketing and distribution costs of their new record. At the time of writing, the campaign had already raised over $350,000, more than three times the original goal, and there are still days left to donate. Rewards for contributing range from special USB drives of the album to out of stock Nike De La Dunks to chowing down with the boys.

On the campaign page the group write, “We see Kickstarter as a home for creative minds…where people who believe, respect and see the vision, can support an idea and make it a reality. In our world, what we’ve created is freedom, freedom to make the art you believe in without having to compromise your vision.”

The group say the record will be a mix of styles, including jazz, funk and even country & western. De La Soul also plan on sampling their own back catalogue to keep it original, and have called on the likes of Damon Albarn, David Byrne, Little Dragon and 2 Chainz to feature on the album. We can’t wait to see what they cook up!
