COWSPIRACY- It's Worse than you Think

Other | Tuesday 8th December 2015 | Craig

Back in 2014, Kip Anderson brought us one of the most shocking and important documentaries of our time, Cowspiracy. It tells the story of the livestock industry and it's largely unknown but devastating effects on our environment and us. It's truly unbelievable what he uncovers and is a must watch for all. If you haven’t seen it already here’s the low down on what is quite frankly the biggest issue of our time, despite what you may have been told by others.

Livestock and their by-products account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

Every hamburger you decide to purchase has needed 660 gallons of water to produce it, the equivalent of two months showering. This is down to the huge quantities of water that cattle need to grow.

The real issue is methane, not CO2. Cow’s produce methane, which if, reduced, will produce positive environmental benefits in about 20/30 years.

Co2, which comes from areas such as transportation and factories, takes about 100 years to effect the environment. So it makes much more sense to tackle livestock emmisions.

There is no such thing as sustainable fishing. Despite what your salmon packet may tell you, it’s a myth. At current demand levels, sea life is given no time to regenerate, with 75% of all ocean life already gone.

Milk production is also not sustainable. One gallon of milk takes about 1000 gallons of water to produce, not to mention that cows are essentially raped (artificial insemination) to keep them producing milk.

We’re currently producing enough food to feed around 12/15 Billion people, but about 8 billion goes straight to livestock, not humans – 82% of starving children live in countries where food is given to cows for profit, not humans.

The livestock industry is literally killing activists who speak out against their actions. At least 908 activists have been killed in 35 countries for protesting against them.

But everybody eats meat, so if I give it up it does nothing right?

No.

It's all about minimising what we as indiviudals are doing to the environement, if we all take this stance we can all collectively make a difference.
