Unsigned Music Awards announce nominees and they are some of your faves

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 22nd March 2018 | Alex

Off the back of a special nominations launch party held in London’s Soho, the official shortlisted nominees for The UMAs 2018 have been announced.

The list was decided by a 100 strong voting panel of professionals and influencers from across the UK’s music industry, including label A&Rs through to publishers, live agents and music editors, with thousands of applicants streamlined down to 16 categories each containing five acts. Categories include ‘Best Female’, ‘Best Record’ and ‘Best Songwriter’. The awards ceremony will take place on May 16th.

Representing the very best in independent and unsigned UK talent across all genres, the list features the likes of Jorja Smith, IDLES, Femme, Dave, Tom Misch and Rex Orange County.

Simon O’Kelly, CEO of UMA Music Group and the Unsigned Music Awards, says: “The Unsigned Music Awards is a platform to promote unsigned, self-signed and otherwise emerging artists, around the world.”

Performers on the night include nominees Foreign Beggers and Tayla, as well as Mullally, Newton Faulkner and Anavae.

The Unsigned Music Awards are a televised awards show held annually to recognise the achievements of artists that are not signed to a record deal, who are yet to be discovered or have chosen to remain proudly independent.

While some artists choose to stay independent, research suggests that a higher percentage (85% in fact) are on the hunt for major label backing. The UMAs aim to provide a link between these emerging artists and the industry.
