People of Kentucky swap their parking fines for food cans

Kentucky are turning parking tickets into food for the homeless through a program called “Food for Fines.”

This is the second year the people of Lexington, Kentucky can pay their fines with canned food for the local food banks, the campaign is running until the December 15th.

 Parking offenders can donate 14-15 ounce of food for a normal $15-dollar parking fine. With more expensive parking fines Lexington parking council are prepared to accept more cans of food.

Collectively the program has gathered 16.000 meals, which is 24,500 cans of food weighing 12 tons.
