Human Rights Activist Malala Yousafzai Receives Honorary Canadian Citizenship

At just nineteen years of age, human rights activist Mala Yousafzai have already inspired millions across the world with her messages of peace and equality.

Yousafzai originally gained recognition for her blog posts about life in Afghanistan under the Taliban. After a failed assassination attempt in 2012 in which she was hit in the face and neck, her family relocated to the to the United Kingdom.

Since then, she has gone on to become one for the most notable and respected advocates for world peace and equality in history.

In addition to winning a Nobel Peace Prize and having delivered a speech at the UN highlighting the importance of having the right to education, Yousafzai has also met with both Queen Elizabeth II and former US President Barack Obama.

This month, the Canadian government honoured her work by making her the sixth person to be awarded honorary Canadian citizenship. Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau presented her with the official documentation, and she also delivered a speech at the Canadian Parliament in which she said that she hopes that the country continues to, "...open your homes and your hearts to the world’s most defenceless children and families".

Truly, we can all learn a thing or two from Malala Yousafzai.
