Bringing Hope to Refugees in Greece

Other | Sunday 30th October 2016 | Annalisa

Two powerful young women fron London, Elz and Tania have been to Greece 7 times this year, doing what they can when it comes to supporting refugees locked in a state of limbo in Greece.

They are now on a mission to build  a school. They have packed up a van, raised some funds and are currently on route. They of course, could do with your support. Become a part of this incredible journey.

They would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone that came out to the event "For The Love Of Hope" and all who donated to raise nearly £8000 so far!

The team are currently on the road to Austria, on their way to Thessaloniki. We will keep you updated on their progress and bring some stories straight from team as they happen, but in the meantime, you can find out more about their plans and support them here

The Hope Project is a collective aiming to help displaced children and adults in Greece with educational programmes including Maths, Science, English, Greek, Sports and Life Skills. Whilst there are informal educational programmes in the camps, the classes and quality of education is limited.

The camps themselves can be unsafe for families, women and children and they are often exposed to exploitation.

Hope Project will provide a safe environment where refugees can develop their skills and contribute towards the project, society and their own future. Hope Project are creating a school off camp in the city centre with a specially designed curriculum including teaching important integration tools for major European countries, learning about their culture, food and basic language.

There will be a safe space for families to come and relax or take a hot shower, life skills will cover everyday ad hoc tasks that will include how to open a bank account, how to enrol in schools and universities, preparing for interviews and CV writing.

The exhibition 'The World is Ours to Share' alongside 'For The Love Of Hope' raised over £3000 towards the mission. If you didn't make it, don't worry! You can still get involved and do your bit!
