The Early Comebacks - Bring the Sunshine with New Single ‘Pass You By'

Indie | Monday 20th March 2017 | Rachel

The Californian duo, known for their groove-based, experimental indie rock, have found a dedicated fan-base with their brand of West Coast, sepia-toned rhythms.

The Early Comebacks are recognised for their self-titled debut record that was released in 2015. Everything on the EP was written and performed by vocalist Kevin Ty in his Bay Area home studio, with the exception of Kevin Coleman’s drums.

Ty has been deservedly compared to other musical innovators, such as Toro y Moi with his music blending the best elements of 60’s pop and 00’s indie strokes, creating a sound that embodies the warmth of his native home, California.

Pass You By is taken from the upcoming EP Distant Distance; From the offset, Pass You By lulls the listener into a false sense of security. The disarming country-esque guitar and smoothing cello is swiftly interrupted as the drums break into a driving rhythm, comparable to the style of bands like Phoenix.

Pass By You also displays surreal lyrical depth, achieving something that is heartfelt but never overly emotive: With lyrics as revealing as "I hope my messages came through, cos I've been waiting to hear from you", complete with sounds of lush melodies and unvarnished guitar, Ty has delicately fashioned an inevitable sense of aching.

The Early Comebacks are most certainly a welcome return with Pass You By.
