An interview with Sunjay Sharma

Other | Friday 7th August 2015 |

After starting out in modelling, Sunjay Sharma is making his film debut in the upcoming feature film Road. We caught up with him for a chat on his future aims, getting to Hollywood and driving a Rolls-Royce.

How are you doing?

I'm feeling good. Life is treating me very well!

Where are you from?

I'm from Coventry.

Tell me a bit about how you got into acting?

Well I started with modelling. Once I started modelling then I got auditions from the director of this movie, as they looked at my modelling portfolio. After doing the audition I got the lead role for this film, which is coming out in November. T-Entertainment is the production house of the movie that I’m in right now.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in acting?

Definitely Will Smith!

What is your favourite genre?

I like comedy, action & Si-Fi.

Who would be your dream male and female co-stars?

I would have to go with Will Smith and Jessica Alba.

What’s your favourite movie?

It might sound a bit cheesy but I've got two. I love sagas, so Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings!

What can the readers expect from the upcoming movie?

A lot of action! They can expect a lot of a big insight into the world that people may not know; how gangs live on a day-to-day life, how they go on about their business, like moving drugs from place to place and stuff like that. It just gives a local insight in to people that they may not come across in every day life.

Where does the movie take place?

It takes place all over the UK. The main place is London.

I hear you've been driving some very nice cars as part of the role...

Yeah, I was driving a Lamborghini Huracán. That was probably the best car in the sense of a sports car. Probably the best, smoothest, silkiest car was the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It is defintely one of the benefits of being in the movie. You get to do things that other people may not be able to do.

What was the scariest moment for you?

Doing a scene in front of hundred people was scary.

Who in the film would we know?

There are a few celebrities from the Asian side. Dr Zeus, Roach Killa, H-Dhami, people like that on the Asian side. In the rap kind of community from London I would say for example Scorcher and people from reality TV shows like Ricci Guarnaccio.

How do you feel being a lead actor in between all of them?

I feel overwhelmed. It’s good because you see these people on TV and I just wanted to meet them one day. But now I’m actually doing a film with them. It feels great.

Now we're going to do a quick rapid fire round....

Your house is burning down pick one item, what do you take?

My phone

Which actress would you date?

Jessica Alba

A private jet is waiting outside, where's your next destination?

Somewhere hot, sunny with a nice lovely blue sea and beach. Somewhere abroad.

Which celebrities would you party with?

Jay z, Kayne West, Beyoncé, Drake... I could keep going...

Favourite music?

Rap, House & Punjabi

You’re planning a bachelor party for your best friend. What are the three must haves?

Alcohol, music, people

Biggest prank played on you?

You know I've had quite a few pranks played on me. One time, my friend phoned me and told me to go to a particular location. I stood there waiting for half an hour and still no-one was turning up. Just when I was about to leave a crowd of people started to run towards me asking for my phone and belongings! At the time I thought this can’t be serious and it ended up being a prank. It was being filmed apparently so I'm glad I didn't start running away!

An idea, which changed your life?

Trying modelling.

What's your favourite chat up line?

I have never used a chat up line!

Has someone has used a one on you?

Yeah, it was a common one. A girl took some ice cubes, threw it on the floor and said 'Now I've broken the ice'.

If you see a mirror, do you look in it?

I feel like that’s a standard procedure, isn’t it?

Which product would you advertise?

Cocoa butter body lotion.

Anything you would like share about the movie?

I can’t really tell you anything about the movie. But it’s going be good and exciting!

And finally, what does the future hold for Sunjay Sharma?

My main aim is to go to Hollywood and shoot some big films. That's the ultimate goal.

Pleasure speaking with you, we look forward to seeing the film in November!
