'The unwearable dresses' are the highlight of Paris Week SS16

Other | Saturday 3rd October 2015 | Eva

The most innovative show of Paris Fashion Week SS16 was without doubt Cypriot-born British designer Hussein Chalayan`s, who is famous for his experimental design.

On the catwalk two models wearing white water soluble paper jackets, in an all white minimal environment, stood motionless on small podiums whilst water was poured over them.

The jackets vanished after a few seconds and dresses patterned with lines of thick black stitching and white petal shapes appeared, each emblazoned with Swarovski jewels.

This show was to celebrate the designer on his 10th anniversary of the collaboration with Swarovski.

Would you ever have imagined seeing such a watery spectacle on the fashion runway?

“Everything is about the body,” says Hussein Chalayan the day before his Spring 2016 show. “I think that the body is the most important cultural symbol, and I think with the body you can tell a lot.”

The message of the show is how fashion is seen as disposable nowadays, but was wholly left as interpretable by all who viewed it.
