London Grammar Cover Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’
Last night, London Grammar took time out of their busy schedule to record a live Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens, performing their stunning new single ‘Strong’, and a brilliant cover of Chris Isaak’s notoriously dark and twisted single ‘Wicked Game’.
Despite not deviating far from the original, the trio manage to imprint their own minimalist simplicity on this powerful track with a relaxing ease. Drummer Dot’s exotic percussion and Dan’s sparse solo guitar line provide virtually the whole songs instrumentation, only padded out by a few shimmering, eclectic synths in-between. The beauty of London Grammar as a band is that this is all they really need. Their songs sparse instrumentation is completely nullified by singer Hannah Reid’s vocals. With the power and beauty of an entire orchestra, Reid’s vocals are quite simply breathtaking, commanding a respect and adoration that is incredibly special.
