The Diaz Brothers' Juan Leal's nu disco house summer Playlist

House | Wednesday 1st June 2022 | Nicky

One of the Shoreditch clubbing pioneers with residencies at the “Last Days of Shoreditch” at the Red Gallery; Drunken Monkey and the King’s Head Members Club amongst guest spots all over the UK, The Diaz Brothers’ Juan Leal has a summer run of dates at some of London’s most buzzing bars and small clubs.

His mix of twisted disco, a big helping of vocal house and a pinch of electronic wonkiness is the perfect musical cocktail for your evening’s entertainment, and here he talks us through his Summer Nu Disco Playlist.

My sound has always been based on my Latin Roots which are percussive and rhythmic. And my love of vocals comes from hearing my grandmother and mother playing songs that talked about love. This playlist is heartfelt and full of warm sunny vibes.

‘Kalimba Vibrations’ Oyobi mix - Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel

This has been destroying the dance floors of certain warehouse/boat parties in the trendy more discerning part of East London…

‘Wherever You Go’ Lauer Dos Main Mix - Fred Everything

808/308’s Acid Afro House!!! Prime time action on this one…goes off! For the first single, Lauer Dos of Tuff City Kids fame, delivered two great versions of Wherever You Go, keeping the Balearic vibe intact while adding a dose of acid toughness

‘Lets Go Deeper’ - Ross Couch

Not just cause he’s a fellow Scot.. Ross Couch has been producing a musical brand of deep, emotive and soulful house music which is perfect for my dance floors

‘It Is What It Is’ - Teddy Black & Austins Groove

Australian producers Teddy Black & Austins Groove team up and collaborate to deliver this 2 track release, featuring the duo's funky garage infused styles interlaced in their unique offering.

‘Run It’  - KACZ

Huge jackin track from KACZ! Big funky vibes, amazing bassline, it's a must-have!

‘Never Thought’ Main Vocal Dub - Kerri Chandler featuring Sunchilde

Kerri Chandler sent me the whole package for my birthday and both the Vocal & Vocal Dub which was recorded at London’s Printworks club. The whole sound is huge and the basslines make your feet dance!

‘Garden of Love’ Dam Swindle mix - The Sunburst Band

The Dutch duo takes us into a glistening lush paradise of warm Rhodes piano, sweltering bass guitar licks, and blossoming synth solos.Perfect for the current sunshine and teeing us up nicely for the coming summer months. Take a walk into the Garden of Love.

‘Another Day Of My Life’  - Louie Vega

Quite a few riveting tracks on his new ‘Expansions NYC’ album but this is a serious nod to the dancefloor

‘Amenundala’ - DJ Spen & James Deron

The Afro-centric roots of House music…this is a total groover with the lights off.

‘Make Me Love You’ - Mondee Oliver

This was released years ago on the cult underground label Gherkin Records and Mondee Oliver’s vocals are so emotional and ooze love sexy vibes and it’s killing it on my dance floors. This has been killing it on my dance floors.

You can catch The Diaz Brothers Live on Friday, June 3rd at The Light Bar, Hackney; Saturday 18th at Putney Pies and on Friday 24th, for I Love You But I Chose Disco at the Horse & Groom, Shoreditch.
