Springing into public view through being crowned Breakthrough Act at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards in 2020 and then also having been placed 4th position on the shortlist of BBC Music's Sound of 2021, this enchanting South East London based female vocalist has been keeping herself busy over lockdown, even dropping her delicious debut LP ‘MAN MADE’ in 2021 last year.
A self-described neo soul, psychedelic R'n'B' singer, Greentea Peng’s growing back catalogue of solo material is only matched by her growing number of features, having appeared on tracks such as 'Soulboy' with P-rallel and 'I Wish You Loved You As Much As You Love Him' with UK legends The Streets and Donae'o, as well as catching a feature on 'Glow' for 'Matriarchy', the final LP from UK hip hop / bass music favourites The Foreign Beggars.
Her debut LP, ‘MAN MADE’, dropped early June 2021 to widespread acclaim, with the record as a whole being consistently noted for its inescapably ‘spellbinding’ effects. ‘Dingaling’, a lead single from the album, features melodic keys as well as lyrical shout outs to South East London hip hop anthem Blak Twang’s 'So Rotton' and the timeless celebration of African woman, 2Baba/2Face’s classic 'African Queen'.
Greentea Peng’s latest appearance comes in the form of a feature for South London production heavyweight Swindle (formerly of labels Deep Medi, Butterz amongst others) on ‘WHAT MORE’, a dubstep ska reggae mash up perfectly matched to GreenTea’s seductively hypnotic vocals, a song to be treasured as a wonderful addition to many a playlist.
Greentea Peng will be performing in London later this spring at the Alexandra Palace Theatre on 31st March, as her month-long tour reaches its climax. Grab your tickets here ASAP as her gigs pretty much always end up sold out!
