Franky Wah delivers a heavyweight selection of tracks for our latest playlist.
There weren’t many winners in 2020, because despite the madness one Yorkshire producer had a stellar year. I’m speaking of Franky Wah, who pulled it out of the bag in a huge way. Of his many achievements in the year were his debut mixtape 'The Revival Vol. 1', massive singles including 'You’re Not Alone' and 'Come Together'. The latter became a sort of lockdown anthem after being championed by Annie Mac, receiving the nomination for 'Hottest Record of the Year' and certified as Mac’s 'Tune of the Week' and 'Hottest Record In The World'.
He also enjoyed his debut collaboration with none other than UK dance music icon Sasha and he crushed his time on Radio 1’s Essential Mix. All these have placed him in a prime position in 2021, and he recently blasted his way onto the famed Anjunadeep discography with the emotive 'Should Have Seen In Coming' EP. He delves deep into the four tracks with progressive melodies, uplifting chords and more than enough nods to Trance.
Looking back on his career and musical loves, Franky Wah has compiled a huge collection of records for us to dig our teeth into. A healthy combination of his own records and others that have inspired him in some way or another. Essential listening for a relaxed weekend…
Haunted - Sasha Vs. Franky Wah
I chose this record because it was my first official collaboration with another artist. It just so happened to be Sasha who was my childhood idol so this record will always have a place in my heart.
Aftertime - Franky Wah
Signing to Afterlife was a goal I set myself at the beginning of my musical career. I’ve always been a fan of the label and their events. Since signing with them I’ve gone on to sign more records but this was the first.
Night Blooming Jasmine (Rodriguez Jr. Remix Edit) - Eli & Fur
This one has everything I look for in a record and I find I can listen to it no matter what mood I’m in, sooo good!
Missing You - Boston Bun
I chose this record because it reminds me of nothing but good memories, perfect for a sunny day!
Don’t Give Up - Chicane feat. Bryan Adams
I chose this one because old skool is the best skool, guaranteed to make you feel good and that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.
Nu World - Maceo Plex
Maceo for me is one of the most consistent artists in the game and this being one of his more recent records proves how he’s constantly evolving his sounds. Absolute banger.
Opal (Four Tet Remix) - Bicep
This record doesn’t really need an explanation but I’m going to give you one. I experienced one of those life changing moments as a raver to this record, I’ll never forget that!
In This World (Franky Wah Remix) - Moby
I chose this one because I feel it was a very proud moment in my career. Having someone like Moby’s approval to rework a classic record of his meant the world to me.
Noise - Denis Horvat feat. Lelah
I chose this track because of the feeling I get when I play the record live and the crowd reaction is always second to none.
Get Me High - Franky Wah
Last but not least, 'Get Me High'. This record is where it all began, I will forever be grateful for this record.
