Inner City Electronic share the moving Tribute to Andrew Weatherall from their March conference.

Leeds based electronic music festival and conference, Inner City Electronic have made a range of their panels available to view online. The selection of discussions and panels were all recorded at their 2020 edition in March. One of the panels they’ve made available is the moving tribute to the legendary Andrew Weatherhall. Hosted by Chinwag’s Chris Madden, the panel includes Justin Robertson, ALFOS’ Sean Johnston, music journalist Joe Muggs and a guest appearance from Back To Basic’s Dave Beer.

In the video they discuss musical highlights and Weatherall’s outstanding contributions to music and culture. He was due to perform at the festival but sadly passed away in February. He was a leading figure in British electronic music. Emerging from the post-punk scene Weatherall quickly established himself as one of the leading DJs in the acid house movement in the late 80s. He had a hugely success career, working with New OrderHappy Mondays and The Future Sound of London, was a regular on the London club circuit including parties like Shroom, Oakenfold's Future/Spectrum and Nick Holloway's Trip, and co-ran Boys Own Recordings. As a producer he was unstoppable with a huge range of remixes for acts such as My Bloody Valentine and Björk, loads of incredible original works, whilst his production and remix work on Primal Scream’s 'Screamadelic' transformed it into a era defining album and won it the Mercury Prize in 1992.

You can watch the panel below, or head to Inner City Electronic’s YouTube channel to check out the other panels they’ve put online.
