Guestlist | Playlist: Trex

Drum and Bass | Tuesday 21st April 2020 | Arren

Another day, another belting playlist, this time from the crates of rapidly rising bass head Trex.

Trex is a London-based drum & bass producer and he’s been on our radar for some time now. He’s been dropping banger after banger on a range of labels including Mac 2, Dispatch Audioporn - not to mention the steady stream from his own imprint, Trust Audio.

Last week he dropped another belter with his slick drum & bass remix for DJ Zinc’s latest record, 'Bubble'. He turns the Crack House smasher into a serious steppers drum & bass track, itching to get blasted out sound systems. Honing in on the bassline and flexing his signature smooth, rolling sound - it’s a sick reimagining of what was already a massive tune.

The track dropped last week as part of a three part remix package. Joining Trex on the remixing duties was Manchester-based Florentino with a killer reggaeton-flavoured rework and Norwich-based Sully with a killer 2-step beat. You can buy/stream the release now.

Celebrating the tracks release, we’ve got Trex to sort us a playlist of some of his favourite records. He hasn’t let us down, delivering five absolute bangers. Lock yourself in to these during the lockdown, you won’t be disappointed!

'Deadlines (Waeys Remix)' - Krispy

One of the best young producers coming through at the moment. Sonically and with vibes this guy is up there with the best. This weighty remix is testament to that. Released on Delta 9, one of the labels pushing boundaries at the moment.

'Back To Life (12inch Remix)' - Soul 2 Soul

A few years ago I had a residency in the upstairs room of a pub in Kentish Town every Friday. Too much Dance music wasn't permitted so I used to build up the vibes playing 80s/ 90s Soul rollers like this with Reggae and Hip Hop. I really miss that gig, we had people of all age groups coming down to have it!

'I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun (4hero Remix)' - Nuyorican Soul

This track is a masterpiece. I have listened to it 100s of times and never get bored of it. One for those long car journeys. Each section of the track as good as the last and It is 8mins long! I test you to find me a better remix.

'Vandilero (Particle Remix)' - Sam Binga & Redders

Particle has smashed it over the last year or two. This remix is one of the reasons why. I still drop this now. Clean production and naughty bass. I'm always keen to check new Particle bits when they drop in!

'Baby Blue' - Action Bronson feat. Chance the Rapper

I am really into hip hop and food, (I used to run 2 pub Kitchens in Camden and Tottenham) and have followed Action Bronson from early in his career through his music and food programme 'Fu*k That's Delicious'. This track is probably my favourite of his and the production is Mark Ronson who is a hall of fame producer. This isn't a remix but there's a half decent dnb remix floating around too ;) which is why it made the list...

Trex’s drum & bass remix of DJ Zinc & Alicai Harley’s track ‘Bubble’ is out now on Bingo Bass - Buy/stream
