‘FR33MND' is a genre spanning song that plays ode to hip-hop, grime, UK garage and reggae all in one enigmatic single. Coming from the creative minds of CiiMATiX, a rap collective hailing from South London, the track is the first to be released from their debut EP and comes out today.
The band have been likened to Wretch 32, Octavian, Kojey Radical, and EarthGang. These comparisons are easy to hear through their experimental juxtaposition of genres within the track (think afro-futurism intertwined with grime and reggae), unique lyric writing and self-exploration.
Although primarily musicians, CiiMATiX also create various forms artistic visions through filmmaking, art and theatre production. These are all talents which they have put into developing their visual album, Sound Mind, which comes out this Autumn. With collective degrees in performing arts, psychology and performance coaching, the band have used their skills to create a carefully curated scientific, spiritual and artistic piece that takes music to another level. All this encapsulates their philosophy of creating ‘music for the sixth sense’.
CiiMATiX talk about the track and say: “Ultimately, this song is about challenging the status quo, and not being defined or controlled by labels and society’s preconceived notions. Creatively, the slant we took with this song is born out of our constant desire to create something relatable in its sound but unique in its approach. We wanted to create a fusion between current and conscious, and to deliver our message in a way that both educates and entertains”.
