The Italian born London based DJ & Producer has had another strong year with International dates including playing to over 10,000 people recently at the 30th Anniversary of Belgium’s biggest queer night La Demence, held at Palais12, the Expo Centre at the Atomium in Brussels. The event was organised by the team behind the infamous Techno club FUSE, and a platform from which Pagano continues to criss-cross the European club scene and beyond with forthcoming dates at Play in Moscow, Metropol in Berlin, Diamond in Cologne, Sala Chango in Madrid, Panama in Amsterdam and Faust in Paris.
His productions continue to pick up accolades and sales with recent heavy hitters ‘Rise’ championed by Adam Beyer & Ida Engberg and Agent Orange’s ‘I’m Free’ which Carl Cox rocked across summer including his Ibiza residency at Resistance.
Pagano latest releases include the ‘Warped E.P’ a collab with Belgium Techno veterans Filterheadz and out on D-Unity's label Unity, and ‘Conga Driver’, a collab with New Yorker Agent Orange which has received multiple radio show plays from Ibiza Global Radio and support from heavyweights including Alan Fitzpatrick and Nicole Moudaber, adding to the ever-growing list of A-List fans which also includes Paco Osuna, Steve Lawler, Roger Sanchez and DJ Boris.
Pagano has shared with us five tracks that have played part in his musical journey and what they each mean to him.
"My influences are very broad. I grew up listening to New Wave, Italo Disco and Proto House in the 80’s living on the Italian island of Sicily where I was born. Then in the 90’s, it was all about the new music genres stemming from House and electronic music: Techno, Nu-Energy and Progressive House. I’ve been DJ-ing and raving since I was sixteen years old and have worked in the music industry since the mid-90s, moving to London in 2000. Mostly because I was obsessed with its nightlife and especially its legendary Trade after hours at Turnmills which I attended religiously for years until eventually becoming one of its resident DJs playing the final event at Egg London in 2015 alongside Nicole Moudaber, Nina Kraviz and Christian Smith".
‘Get Closer’ 12” Version - Valerie Dore
In 1984 I was only 8 when I was given a cassette tape mix of a live recording from a nightclub which also included Valerie Dore. This 90 minutes journey blended a mix of Italo Disco, Afro, Proto House, Disco and Synth Pop. This edgy and dark mix certainly shaped my taste as an adult.
‘Smokebelch II’ - The Sabres Of Paradise
I remember hearing this one as the sunrise hit the dance floor of open-air club Marabù in Sicily. One of those magical moments when everything stands still and the music does the talking.
‘Passion’ Naked Mix - Gat Decor
One of the most beautiful piano riffs I’ve ever heard. Another cult classic record from the 90s. I still have the original 12” vinyl. Just like “Smokebelch II” it’s one of those records that takes you on a journey.
‘Give Me Love’ Original Mix - Alcatraz
This is a huge classic from before Tech House was even a thing. What has always impressed me about this track were the intricate layers. This has inspired me many times in the studio.
‘Schöneberg’ Tony De Vit Remix & Original - Marmion
As a former resident DJ at legendary London After-Hours club Trade this is one of those records that would bring the house down. Tony De Vit is a cult figure for many DJs of my generation and his ‘Global Underground’ compilation ‘Live in Tokyo’ is one of those double mixed CDs that I have consumed. They should re-issue it digitally because it is a flawless and inspirational mixed album that would certainly help many young DJs to understand the importance of programming.
