Freejak's dropped us a massive NYC inspired playlist

House | Thursday 15th August 2019 | Arren

The essential sounds of NYC, according to Freejak.

Widely acclaimed UK DJ/producer, Freejak is riding on a wave of success right now. He’s worked with legends Pauk Oakenfold and Kelis and made fans out of a range of DJs from Diplo & DJ Target to Fatboy Slim and Tiesto. Not too shabby!!

He’s made a name for himself with a load of quality house beats, and some high profile remixes. His thumping tracks have had clubs jacking hard and his latest tune; ‘Empire (NYC)’ is set to do the same.

’Empire (NYC)’ drops today on Champion Records and is a shimming disco odyssey. Capturing the spirit and energy of the old skool New York City disco and house scene and polishing it off with a slick modern edge - it’s a cracking tune that’ll no doubt get hammered for the rest of summer and beyond. You can buy/stream that here.

Celebrating his newest release and in a nod to its great influence, Freejak has compiled us a massive playlist, all inspired by the Big Apple’s thriving music scene. He’s selected the very best from one of the most incredible cities on the planet.

P. Diddy - Bad Boys For Life (Freejak Remix)

This is my interpretation of New York born P. Diddy’s anthem ‘Bad Boys For Life’.

Todd Terry - Something Going On

Todd Terry began DJing at parties in New York in the 1980s, playing Italo disco. You couldn't have a New York inspired playlist without its most famous DJ / Producer.

Celeda, Danny Tenaglia - Music Is The Answer

On to another New York DJ / Producer legend, Danny Tenaglia. His ‘Music Is The Answer’ is still a must-play in any house music set.

David Morales - Needin' U

New York’s very own Grammy Award-winning producer, David Morales has to be included on this list. He's responsible for countless house anthems and has remixed for the biggest artists on the planet.

MAW feat. Puppah Nas-T & Denise – Work (Remix Produced By Julien Jabre & DJ Gregory)

Masters at Work is the garage house production and remix team of ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez. I’ve chosen a modern remix of their seminal classic work.

Massivedrum - The Bomb 2K17

One Half of MAW duo Kenny Dope bought us the classic disco anthem The Bomb in 1995. This is Massive Drums’s loving remake of that disco bomb

Todd Terry - Keep On Jumpin (Rhythm Masters Thumpin Mix)

Dipping back into the huge back catalogue of the amazing house god Todd Terry. This is the Rhythm Masters’ Remix which was a huge club banger.

Empire State Of Mind - Jay Z feat. Alicia Key

You couldn’t have a New York inspired playlist without thinking of the anthem from Alicia Keys that the city itself inspired and titled.

Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Michael Gray Remix)

New York was home to the legendary Studio 54 nightclub. The blueprint that clubs have tried to live up to ever since. So, it would be wrong not to include a huge disco anthem of that era. Here, the amazing Michael Gray has lovingly updated a Studio 54 masterpiece.

Frank Sinatra - Theme From New York, New York

This list can only be finished off with the one and only New York inspired track. What more is there to say?
