Pushing the boundaries for Electronica, The Hydra have announced they will be taking over The Printworks across August Bank Holiday Weekend, celebrating alternative live Electronic Music, alongside some heavyweight Detroit legends for good measure.
On Friday 23rd August, The Hydra will be inviting super talented German composer Nils Frahm to showcase his beautiful collision of Classical and Electronic music at the Live Halls in Printworks this August. His popularity has seen him play 4 sold out dates at The Barbican last year so be sure to expect a full house for this Berlin-based pianist rapturous live performance. In addition to this, The Hydra has also commissioned a one-off 25th-anniversary performance of '76:14' by Global Communication. Considered as one of best ambient albums of the 90s, Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard reconvene to put together a full, bespoke performance of this seminal record.
Saturday the 24th, a techno masterclass is on the menu, as Printworks welcomes the return of Jeff Mills with support from his trusty compatriots Motor City and Juan Atkins performing live under his Model 500 guise for a Printworks debut. Electro goddess Helena Hauff graces the Press Halls too with Ben Klock adding extra firepower to this already impressive line-up which rolls into extended time, finishing up at 2 am. The Dark Room will be playing host to some of Hydra's backbones, Move D and Willow, with debutant Damiano Von Erckert bringing his Hip Hop-channeling House sensibility to Printworks second space.
The final day of The Hydra takeover sees them call on some Detriot's finest for a Stateside takeover. A colourful array of soulful legends and innovators old and new will be on hand to deliver a spectacle of soulful House and Techno for Hydra's Bank Holiday finale. House music leviathan, Larry Heard will perform, for what will be his only London show of 2019. He is a man responsible for origins of Chicago House and has recorded solo under various names, most notably as Mr Fingers. Accompanying him on Sunday service is a trio of second-generation Detroit superstars, Carl Craig, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. The Hydra co-Founder Dolan Bergin sets the tone for the evening.
Upholding the highest production standards, The Hydra has appointed leading industry figures to provide impeccable sound and stunning visuals throughout the weekend. Adding his flair to both Saturday and Sunday’s all-day sessions, Rebel Overlay AKA Spencer Heron is a ground-breaking visual mapping artist. Having supplied visuals for The Hydra’s inaugural show in 2012, he is now amongst the most sought-after visual artists in his field, working with the likes of Skepta and many others across European and U.S tours.
Tickets for The Hydra's August Bank Holiday Weekend at The Printworks are available from Thursday 13th June at 11am.
