House | Friday 14th June 2019 | Nicky

As the festival season rolls into town, we caught up with Summer Soulstice host & DJ Fat Freddie M and the live headliners Andy Abraham, Natasha Watts and Louise Golbey about the Summer Soulstice festival and what's in store for this year's outing.

Fat Freddie M, Andy Abraham, Natasha Watts and Louise Golbey will join Aswad and Alison Limerick to light up the Main stage on Saturday, June 22nd for the 13th edition in Barnet.

What makes the event so special?

The thing which makes this event special is the attention to detail in the preparation. It’s always about the community and the vibe that the locals bring. The beginning with the school children dancing in front of a large crowd warms my heart. I personally enjoy having the opportunity to be myself - as professional as possible and an inspiration to those who come to Soulstice for the first time or every year.

What are you most looking forward to from it?

Raising the awareness of Cherry Lodge to be honest - a small outfit delivering BIG in the area.
Plus meeting people and enjoying the atmosphere come rain or sunshine.

What tunes they are going to play?

Last time I played ‘Singing In The Rain’ before the finalé - it’s always good to make people think they know what the crowd will like. My main track this year’s going to be Gregory Porter’s 'Be Good'
I’ll play from soul, pop to rap to whatever takes me on the day..... It’s about what I feel the people will respond too!

What makes the event so special?

What has been achieved through hard work, vision and passion has transformed Barnet for that weekend in June into a soul haven for music lovers. And out of tragedy a light shines and keeps the memory of Andy Weekes alive with the added enthusiasm of raising money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care which I’m so proud to be a part of.

What songs are you and your band performing on the main stage?

I perform popular soul tunes regularly but because this festival is geared towards the true soul head I realised I can dive into soul tunes of the heart and artists that I adore ie Gene Chandler, Earth Wind & Fire, Kenny Thomas, Leroy Hutson, The Meters, Steve Arrington & Slave, Kool and the Gang, George Benson, OC Smith etc, I’m not giving away any songs cause I want it to be a surprise.

What makes the event so special?
This event brings so many people together in the open air to enjoy good music dancing and hopefully the sun and this kind of event cannot be beaten for fun and atmosphere !

What are you most looking forward to from it?
I can't wait to get the crowd started .. I love opening up the Festival and setting the mood for the rest of the afternoon!

What tunes are you going to perform
A mixture of covers and originals.

Louise Golbey

What makes the event so special?

The charity the festival is in aid of does incredible work so it ’s a real honour to be on the line up this year. It's also a great day out with good vibes!

What are you most looking forward to about the day/festival?
I'm looking forward to watching the incredible line up of artists on the main stage and having a good old dance in some of the DJ tents!

What songs are you going to perform
I haven't decided my set list yet but will definitely be doing my new single 'Different' which is out on 7th June and most likely my last single 'A Good Life' as it's a summer jam and ‘The Outsider’ which I wrote with Omar. We will keep it nice and upbeat anyway!

With over 30 DJs and Main Stage live acts spread across 3 arena's of music set in the green surroundings of Barnet's OE’s Memorial Playing Fields, Summer Solstice is gearing up for one of it's most exciting editions yet.

You'll be able to sample an array of cocktails and try out various food outlets and some cool merchandise stalls. A free kids play zone and entertainers have been laid on and will to keep little ones invigorated as well as a handy free Soul Bus shuttle to and from High Barnet tube station on the day so you can ditch the car at home and come ready to party.

This annual fundraising event sees all the DJs, photographers, stewards and staff donate their services for free, they give straight back to the local area’s leading cancer charity, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and always do this in memory of soul fan, Andy Weeks.
