"Everyone loves a moment to put their hands in the air and dance unleash their wild side." Karen Harding on her love of the dance scene.

Thursday 11th April 2019 | Grace

From collaborating with anyone from Example to Wilkinson, Karen Harding is a quickly growing name on the Dance and House music scene.  Set to headline her first show in Hoxton at the end of May, her career is set to be higher than that guy in the club who always has his top off and who manages to keep dancing for 12 hours straight.  With a voice that is both powerful and enticing, Karen has been snapped up to Ultra Music and so, we spoke to her about things like growing up as a Geordie and just what it is about Dance music that she loves so much.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

If it feels good, carry on.

How would you describe your state of mind?

Healthy with a good daily dose of happiness.

You're from Newcastle, what was it like growing up there?

I love Newcastle, I'm proud to be a Geordie! Everyone is so friendly up north and so supportive!

What is the music scene like up there and how has it influenced the music you make now?

I've definitely seen a change in the music scene up there since I started making music. There's a great house music scene now and some awesome places to rave, we've delivered some great Dj/producers like Patrick Topping and Jacky but also some amazing artists likes Sam Fender and STING!

What is it about House and Dance music that you love so much?

I love how it makes me feel. I love to dance and party and those epic moments in a lot of house music just make me lose my mind (in the best way)!

Do you feel like music from the UK is having a big impact in today’s Dance scene?

Huge, and I'm so pleased to be a part of it in any way I can be. I work with so many producers who are constantly referencing amazing UK house music.

What do you think it is about House and Dance that has caused it to stick around with such popularity for so long?

Everyone loves a moment to put their hands in the air and dance unleash their wild side.

Some amazing memories are made to house and dance music, especially in magical places like Ibiza or huge festivals.

How are you feeling about playing your first headline show in Hoxton?

SO EXCITED. Buzzing to be able to play music that I've featured on but I was part of writing so it's going to be fun to change some of the songs up and show people how, I guess, they sounded in my head. Me mam and dad are coming down as well!

Where would your dream gig be?

Maddison Square Garden - picture Mariah Carey in the film Glitter. I love it!

Tell us about your new single, Picture?

I had such fun writing Picture! I remember turning up to the session with Jamie Harper, a bit hungover and thinking about that moment when I was asking for someone to take my picture before I went out, cos, we all know that it's only downhill from there haha!

What was it like collaborating with Paul Woolford on ‘You Already Know’?

Paul is an absolute legend, he's so funny. I love his tune Hang up your Hang ups and was buzzing when he got stuck into the vocals for 'You Already Know' and sent me the first demo, I played it so loud in the car, think I almost broke the speakers.

Who was the best person you worked with and why?

There's been so many inspiring artists, writers and producers I've worked with. Everyone brings something different to the table. But if I had to choose it would be MNEK because he's the one who noticed me online and worked on my first single 'Say Something'.

Who would your dream collaboration be with and why?

I think me and Bruno Mars would smash an 'Endless Love' style ballad!

What do you bring to the scene that makes you stand out from the rest?

All those songs I was into and sang (non-stop - sorry mam and dad) from such a young age helped develop my sound. Vocally, I always hope that my voice is a voice people can recognise instantly. It's always been important for me that people feel what I feel when I'm singing, so I hope this is what stands out.

What does the rest of the year hold for you?

OOFT - I'm finishing some tunes off for my next few singles and I tell ya wha! I think you're gonna love them.

Eyes and ears peeled!
