DAWA share intimate, soothing new single

Indie | Tuesday 18th July 2017 | Lilly

Vienna-based band DAWA is set to release their new album Reach on the 4th August via Las Vegas Records.

DAWA’s career highlights include playing at the 2015 FM4 Frequency Festival in Austria alongside The Prodigy, The Offspring, Echosmith and Halestorm, reaching Austrian Top40 Album & Single Charts, playing Reeperbahn Festival in 2014, and achieving second place in the National pre-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.

Their track 'Open Up (Urban Contact Remix)' has received over 368 thousand plays on Youtube with support from major Youtube channel Mr Suicide Sheep.

DAWA was formed in 2014 by John Dawa (vocals/guitar), Barbara Wiesinger (vocals/percussion), Laura Pudelek (cello) and Oama Richson (cajón/percussion), after John and Barbara met Laura and Oama at a street concert at the Ragnarhof in May 2010, the enthusiasm was mutual and they quickly discovered that their instruments were very compatible.

DAWA describe their sound of music as warm, rich and handmade. Some of their influences include José Gonzalez, Junip, Fink and Santana. Their current favourites are Floating Points, Portico Quartet, Vakula and Tornado Wallace, to name a few.

With ‘Reach’, DAWA deliver earnest contemplations of life’s little epiphanies, supported by melodic flair and a mesh of earnest vocals. The mood of the album is bittersweet, reflecting songs of remorse, regret and renewal, pragmatic in hue but with a fireside warmth.

DAWA says about the album, ‘“We really stepped on new grounds as we used a lot of new instruments for our set-up. We definitely had to come out of our "comfort zone" for that. It was a blast to discover the possibilities, forming our sound, as there are so many different effects and new ways to look at a song!"

"We recorded in a 'decent' studio this time, compared to the first and the second album, which were both staged in a manger-like room at the countryside where we stayed for days and recorded 'live'. So yeah, you could say our new album was a whole new experience with lots of promising catchy tunes!.”
