Specsavers UK: Donate your old glasses today

Thursday 9th March 2017 | Ben

Ahead of World Glaucoma Week, which runs from March 12-18, Specsavers stores in North London are putting a call out to their local neighbourhoods to donate pairs of used and unwanted glasses to help improve access to eye-care services in developing nations through their Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) initiative.

VAO works in Africa to transform access to eye-care services and is part of the Vision 2020 scheme which aims to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020.

The charity will recycle the glasses and the proceeds from the reusable parts, which will be put towards establishing vision centres, training local eye-care professionals and providing outreach services to isolated communities.

Stores are always amazed at how generous their local communities are, however, there are no doubt still so many more people that may have unwanted specs lying in a drawer somewhere!

All donations are welcome so the London stores would like all their community members to have a spring clean and bring their glasses in store for an extremely worthy cause.

Stores throughout North London looking for collections include: Acton, Barking, Barkingside, Bethnal Green, Dagenham, Dalston Cross, Ealing, East Ham, Edgware Town, Edmonton Green, Golders Green, Greenford, Hackney, Harlesden, Harrow, Hayes, Hornchurch, Ilford, Kingsbury, Palmers Green, Romford, Ruislip, Stanmore, Stratford London, South Harrow, Upminster, Uxbridge, Walthamstow, Wembley, West Ealing, Westway Cross, and Wood Green.

So what are you waiting for!
