Dance music meets dating with Mix'd

House | Friday 4th September 2015 | Christina

This new dating app is basically Tinder for house heads.

Mix’d is the latest niche dating app on the scene, aimed at those super into music. When creating your profile, the app asks you to choose your favourite music and DJs, and it also picks up on what events and shows you’re going to from your Facebook page.

Mix’d then matches you with people who have similar taste, and using the swift left/swipe right function of Tinder, you can strike up conversations and send music to your potential soulmate. The app also has a “concert mode” feature, which enables you to search for people close to your location, taking all the legwork out of making friends at the rave.

Creator Noah Brunell told Thump that he was motivated to create the app from personal experience: “I go to a lot of shows. It’s a huge part of my life, and all my friends date girls or guys that are into the same scene. I thought ‘there’s something here’. This might sound close-minded, but I don’t think I could date someone who wasn’t into the same type of music that I am into. If I can’t share those experiences with the person I’m spending all this time with, then it’s gonna be a real issue.”

Launched with a big shindig at New York institution Verboten, Brunell has plans to introduce the app to more dance fans at Electric Zoo and TomorrowWorld festivals, and in the long-term he has ambitions to add more music features, including news, tickets and merchandise.

Sadly for all the lonely ravers this side of the pond, Mix’d is currently only available in the US but it’s only a matter of time before it makes its way over here.
