Guestlist Recommends: Fall Out Boy

Indie | Thursday 21st February 2013 | Becca

Fall Out Boy are back with a bang. A firey one at that, as their new single is accompanied by a video, involving some scantilly-clad models dancing around a raging bonfire. Lovely stuff.

You may remember the band for tracks such as ‘Sugar We’re Going Down’, ‘Thanks For The Memories’ and ‘This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arm’s Race’. The band also produced a half decent cover of Micheal Jackson’s ‘Beat It’, which you may also recognise.

‘My Songs Know What You Did Last Summer (Light ‘Em Up) is the come back single, after a 4 year hiatus.

What made them come back? Has the money run out that quickly boys? Who knows, what we do know is that the new single isn’t all bad. And it sounds like the Fall Out Boy we all knew and loved. (Patrick Stump repeating catchy vocals over heavy guitar lines, with some hand claps thrown in for good measure).

The video, as mentioned, includes a man and two women, dancing around a bonfire, dressed in all black. The three proceed to throw items into the bonfire, these items being musical instruments. and what seems to be old Fall Out Boy albums. Symbolising that the band are leaving their old, boyish, emo-scenekid sound behind?

The band have clearly developed their sound a little further, it’s slightly heavier than their older material, there’s more of an edge to it. However, it’s still the same sing-a-long Fall Out Boy anthem, fans will be lining the o2 Arena shouting their hearts out to this one.

So the new album is set for release on 16th April, the 6th release from the guys, let’s see what Patrick, Pete, Joe and Andy have instore for us. You can watch the video for 'My Songs Know What You Did Last Summer' here.
