"Mental War"
Last time that reggae artist Uwe Banton released an album was three years ago, with "Rightful Peace". He is now ready to release the long-awaited "Mental War", expected on November 2nd. The main single in the album is the roots and hip-hop inspired "Work", in which Uwe Banton sings along with the veteran jamaican singer "Mikey general".
The song seems very appropriate for the current context : as a matter of fact, it talks about the world financial crisis, and addresses all the hard working people. The chorus says : "you've got to work with what you've got until you get what you want"... A message of hope for the future addressed to the youth maybe?
Banton always seems very keen on addressing political issues. For instance, we still remember his song "11th September". In all his songs, he sends people positive messages of love and peace, by which his audience is always thrilled.
Here's a quick reminder of his artistic path :
German artist Uwe Banton started off as a reggae musician in the early 1980's, influenced by artists such as Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Jacob Miller and Burning Spear, and first went to Jamaica in 1981. Back in Germany, he started off as a DJ on Riddims back in 1984, during the era of King Jammy's Riddims, like many other artists. Progressively making his way through within the field of reggae, he starts playing for all the major Reggae Festivals in Central Europe, such as "Summerjam", "Chiemsee", "Reggaejam", and others. Up to this date, he has played on all major Reggae festivals in Germany and neighbouring countries. He has just returned from a successful tour through Costa Rica.
