What’s happening on the French hip-hop/electro scene ?

Thursday 4th October 2012 | Alice

Who said that French electro would die away after the Daft Punks ?

Whoever did, has just been proven wrong. As a matter of fact, we can now be sure that there will be some people who can take over after these two. Hereabove is a picture of the band that everyone will now have to take into account when talking about French electro : the C2C.

C2C is the product of a union between two duos : «Hocus Pocus» (http://www.myspace.com/hocuspocushiphop), who were doing hip-hop/rap, and «Beat Torrent» (http://www.myspace.com/beatorrent), whose speciality was to remix and revisit hip/hop and electro classics. The four guys, originally from Nantes, France, knew each other from high school. After making a few musical experiences separately, they finally decided to all re-unite within C2C, for the greatest pleasure of their public.

In fact, this band is already big in France. After the incredible success of their EP Down the Road, which contained six songs, the band released its first album, TETR4, in September 2012, to encounter a success that was just as huge, if not bigger.

The secret of this massive succes is perhaps the unique blend of various musical styles and influences that resulted from the reunion of the four musicians. Basing their music on the grounds of hip-hop, they also know how to subtly bring in touches of soul, blues, and  even jazz, punctuating the whole thing with some electro beats. Very attached to their artistic freedom, the members of C2C have decided to executive produce their music themselves for the time being. Thus, they have created their own label, called «On and on records».

Another one of their many particularities is to specialise and innovate in the field of live-mixing: being very much aware that the public can sometimes get bored by looking at a DJ gesticulating behind his turntables, they have been trying to find new ways of entertaining people during their show. They sometimes do this in very simple ways, such as wearing a bright tee-shirt, or creating choreographies. But they’ve also found more complex techniques, like tilting their turntables toward the public, so that everyone can watch carefully how the work is being done...

Want to bring these guys to the UK ?? Then the best thing you can do now is to go and check out their myspace www.myspace.com/c2cdjs, and click  «DEMAND IT», hoping that one day they’ll make it to the other side of the channel !!
