Seba - Keeping Drum and Bass Fresh

Drum and Bass | Monday 30th December 2013 | Ewan

It's hard to find interesting drum and bass producers these days who are doing something different from the usual jump-up stuff that seems to be airing on mainstream radio-stations. if you like your drum and bass a little bit deeper, a little bit more soulful, then look no further than Seba; real name Sebastian Ahrenberg. Sebastian hales from Sweden and has been making drum and bass since 1998 and is quite prolific in his style and variation of moods and themes.

In an interview with Damian B from http://www.friedmylittlebrain.com/ he was asked what his album said about his identity.

Seba replied: This album is a reflection of what I listen to in everyday life. I’m a big techno fan and this album has several tracks inspired by both house and techno, but still in a D&B format. I like to evolve in my music, and have taken the step from being very breaks-oriented to becoming more focused on electronic music.

The reason I'm so excited about producers like Seba, is because I believe they are the true trend setters. They are making drum and bass not for the masses, but for themselves and for their personal love of the genre. Seba has a soft spot for keeping his tracks simple yet beautifully structured and layered with just the right amount of melody, bass, drums and vocals. He effortlessly creates drum and bass that stirs your soul and uplifts your heart.

I believe that drum and bass has become too much about hyping things up, blaring out the cheesy vocals and making the genre into something that it naturally is not. Drum and bass is not about being loud or trying to tell you things about love - it does these things without you having to create loud synths or strange electronic noises. It's not about being in your face or being cool. It simply is drum and bass. You don't need to put flashy lights or bright colours to make it sound good. Keep it simple, keep it natural and the genre will take care of the rest.

Still don't get what I mean? Have a listen.
