Ok so everyone knows Twitter can get a bit annoying when you’re constantly updated with people’s every move ‘just ate a sandwich’ or when it serves a platform for petty arguments #rhiannaandCiara.
Nevertheless, Twitter can have its uses. I’m not twitter’s biggest fan but when something news worthy happens it’s my first port of call for up to date and un biased information. When the student protests swept across London and I got caught up in a kettle in Trafalgar Square it was my twitter feed that was speaking the truth. Whilst BBC News was chatting breeze about the civility of police actions, people were tweeting accurate reports of the scene where hundreds of teens were held without out food or water shelter in freezing conditions for up to 12 hours.
Similarly a couple of weekends ago London’s Pleasure Gardens at Bloc Festival whoever was in charge of the twitter chose to ignore the mounting chaos, choosing to focus on the acts ‘Big up metal face DOOM #bloc2012’. Whilst festival goers spread word about the over crowding and subsequent shut down, there was no word on the situation from the organisers until the following day.
Furthermore it’s clearly a bit short sighted to claim that anyone who tweets is a celebrity or a bastard. At the end of the day if you don’t like what someone’s tweeting just unfollow them!

Fuck Twitter
Anyone who tweets is either a celebrity or a bastard.
Six years ago an American by the name of Jack Dorsey then launched what has now become the multi-million dollar social network service that is ‘Twitter’. There are over 500 million active users, producing 350 million ‘tweets’ daily to make it one the top ten most visited sites on the Internet and have it labelled as the ‘SMS of the internet’
As if Facebook wasn’t enough for people tell the rest of the world whatever the fuck they wanted, now there are two services which allow you to express what is on your mind: be it your ‘cute’ new pet that everyone just has to see, your current emotional state as a result of yet another one of your failed relationships or persistent updates made by avid football fans about transfers and all that bollocks, Twitter is the latest place you can come to give your opinion even though no one fucking asked for it.
Maybe I’m just being that guy who has to hate everything popular, but I struggle to see the good that comes from the Twitter service. Whilst I recognise it has played some significant political roles (cited as an important factor in the Arab Spring) and has allowed many narcissistic celebrities to update their fans on their every movement, these are marred by the countless posts about literally any old shit that rarely benefits anyone except for themselves. Perhaps these people feel that all this tweeting is good for them: that it gives them a sense of importance, that people actually care about their personal concerns and that their voice is a voice of the people, that they can lead the masses from the comfort of their room at a computer screen.
So there’s my opinion on Twitter… not that anyone cares or anyone asked for it.
