Mexican Prison Riot Leaves 52 Dead

A riot has broken out in a North Mexican prison just before dawn on Thursday leaving 52 dead at Topo Chico state penitentiary.

Among the dead are prisoners and guards, as well as 12 injuries, including five severe.

According to the Nuevo León state governor, Jaime Rodríuez, A.K.A. “El Bronco” has stated that the riot was linked to an attempted breakout by the leader of a notorious drug cartel known as the Zetas.

It is reported that the rioting began when a group of inmates tried to aid a group of Zeta members escape from Topo Chico, at which point the guards lost control of the situation, leading to an all-out riot.

The Mexican army were called in to deal with the situation around 1:30am.
