Sing with Charlotte Church and save the Arctic

Other | Thursday 27th August 2015 | Federica

Singer and songwriter Charlotte Church sang yesterday in front of Shell HQ in London to protest against the ice drilling that the company has been doing for the past few weeks.

This is the result of ice melting in the past years, due to climate change, but if more ice is drilled in order to find oil, the effects could be devastating. Huge amounts of oil could be spilled any time and it would destroy the Arctic. The entire environment is seriously endangered and many are not taking it silently.

On August 26th, singer and songwriter Charlotte Church lent her voice to the cause, performing in front of Shell's London HQ. She sang a version of 'This Bitter Earth', accompanied by a small orchestra, who also played a 'Requiem for the Arctic Ice' which has been composed for the occasion.

It was a really rainy day, but nonetheless people gathered for the protest and endured the bad weather to show how their support. "I'm fighting for my granchildren, and their children", a woman told us. "They are very passionate and I talk to them about these things all the time".

"I don't think Shell will be intimidated today", said a girl who decided to spend one day of her London holiday joining the protest, 'but I think the media is really important. It is important that people know about it and start caring, things will change".
