The Weeknd - House of balloons
Possessing the smoothness most often found in a tub of Bailey’s Hagen daas, The weekend certainly restore the sensual ease that most pop drunk RnB fail to. Yearning, almost decadent vocals counteract the hard-hitting lyrics to create a stunning debut. ‘Wicked games’ brings emotional rawness as well as an open endorsement for getting high (*cough*) -‘bring the drugs, baby I can bring my pain’. However, ‘Coming down’ stands out with crafted production - when that cheeky bass exposes its hungry hand, you can’t help but turn the volume a few notches. House of balloons manages to stay relevant with its dub step influences, although it’s the slightly nostalgic feel of this mix-tape that makes it fresh.
Standout tracks: This Morning, Comming down, Glass table girls
