Lyrically Challenged: Capturing Talent

RnB/Hip Hop | Saturday 14th September 2013 | Natasha

Last night Passing Clouds transformed into an outlet for creative individuals to showcase their talent. ‘Lyrically Challenged’ is the ultimate hub for good people, good music and good vibes. From rap, dance, spoken word to beatboxing this love fuelled night will leave you feeling moved and inspired.
Upstairs the low ceilings and ambient lighting makes for a moving acoustic setting and downstairs the stage takes focus of the room as each act steps up to shine.

I & Ideal performed a candid and thought provoking spoken word piece titled ‘Arms Trade’ and shortly after Osama delivered an emotionally vivid piece on Syria. Everyone that performed these insightful spoken word pieces really engaged and connected with all of those in the room. There were moments of silence where it felt like everyone had disappeared. It was like it was just you and their words, left alone to really process every single syllable and sound, each one as beautiful and powerful as the last.

As the evening went on and the venue continued to fill up the crowd formed a semi-circle, the mic was passed around and lyrics filled the room. Everyone involved was made to feel welcome and the feeling of one big family is unmistakably felt. Aina Roxx and Mels D shone brightly with impressive flows and vocals. Arms were raised and cheers were loud as these two ladies took their turn on the mic. No matter who you are, where you’re from or where you’re going if you were in that semi-circle or formed part of the crowd you couldn’t help but feel the love in the room and rightly, support each artist involved.

Beatboxer Beatfox had the attention of everyone when he took to the stage. Fixated on his sheer talent Beatfox performed a mesmerising  set and impressed the crowd with a ‘Back to Life’ mix. Just at the point when you think you are already filled to the brim and have digested all the talent the night has offered you are fed again. Four determined, positive and passionate women united the room once again and gave an energetic performance. These talented ladies go by the name of ‘L C Collective’ and just like their performance, their on stage chemistry will keep you fixated.

There was one thing that everyone had in common last night, and that was a love and passion for an expressive art. A love for music, spoken word or dance connected every single person together, and for one night nothing else mattered. Lyrically Challenged have created a family that opens its arms to anyone that shares this love and the event continues to effortlessly capture moments of brilliance. To the team and all acts involved, thank you for a memorable night.
