Is this the future of food shopping?

Other | Wednesday 21st September 2016 | Annalisa

The Real Junk Food Project is a community interest company that aims to stop waste food through a series of projects. Well known for their cafes across the world and the UK where they divert food intended for waste and create nutritious & delicious meals in exchange for money time and skills, they have now opened the UK’s first food waste supermarket in Pudsey.

The space, a warehouse store on the Grangefield Industrial Estate, collects food from supermarkets and other food industry businesses and displays it for people to come, shop and take home. The pricing operates on a “Pay as you feel” basis and has already helped families struggling to feed their children

Watch Adam Smith, founder of the Real Junk Food Project, talking about their philosophy in this 2015 Ted Talk, Let’s REALLY feed the world.

The project is looking for volunteers. If you would like to help riving, weighing, sorting, stacking shelves, cleaning and much more find out more on Facebook and the Real Junk Food Project website
