London's looking for a Night Czar

Other | Tuesday 23rd August 2016 | Arren

Making good on one of his promises, Sadiq Kahn and the guys at the London Assembly started advertising a new role at City Hall.

They are looking for a Night Czar to help turn London into a truly 24 hour city. Following in the footsteps of other European cities like Amsterdam, Sadiq has established this new role to really represent the cities nightlife.

The job description explains that the candidate will need to 'champion the value of London's night time culture whilst developing and diversifying London's night time economy'.

Whoever gets the job will be working with all the different agencies like the Met and TfL to 'create a vision for London as a 24-hour city and a roadmap showing how the vision will be realised.' The role is worth £35,000 annual at 2.5 days each week.

Given the current situation in the city, the role could come at a better time. Clubs and venues need a voice to stand up for them and not bow down to pressures from property developers and gentrification.

Applications we're sure will be flying given how many people love and care about our cities nightlife. Whoever bags the job will in no doubt have a big task on their hands, though we are finally walking in the right direction!
