BitTorrent offer up to $100,000 to artists and musicians

Other | Wednesday 17th August 2016 | Cristina

Torrenting giant BitTorrent are known for revolutionising data sharing, pioneering user-friendly ways to share files which often prioritise the rights of the individual over the rights of the corporation. In 2014, they introduced the pay-gate bundle, a way for artists to release music which enables them to set their own price, get 90%of profit and key data like buyer email addresses.

Now BitTorrent has announced a fund, called the Discovery Fund, of between $2,500 - $100,000, for artists working on projects which need a financial boost. The fund is for marketing and other areas of distribution, rather than beginning or developing a project.

Anyone is encouraged to apply, and it is aimed at “the world’s next wave of awesome, straight-up brave storytellers and outside voices”.

The first winners to be announced are the filmmakers of Collective: Unconscious, an anthology of short films based on dreams had by various indie filmmakers.

Apply for the Discovery Fund here.
