Chronixx Explains The Meaning of Reggae

Reggae | Thursday 24th March 2016 | Arash

We take a look at the career of Chronnix, the son of reggae veteran Jamar Rolando McNaughton aka Chronicle.

Chronixx is one of the most exciting up-and-coming reggae artists around today. Born in Jamaica in 1992, Chronixx started writing music and recording songs during his childhood before going on to produce for famed artists including Konshens and Munga Honourable.

Having released his debut EP Hooked on Chronixx back in 2010, toured Europe in 2013 and seen his 2014 album The Dread & Terrible Project top the iTunes Reggae Chart, Chronixx has since been working on projects with other legends across the reggae, jazz  and hip-hop genres, like Ernest Ranglin and Joey Bada$$, securing his place in the scene.

In a recent interview, Chronixx opened up about the meaning of reggae, saying that “reggae is a really hard thing to find a definition for...our music was created out of spirituality and struggles and happiness and our experiences as a people, and that is a very in-depth story by itself. Reggae was created out of a unique situation by unique people and it’s a very wide thing.”
