World's Most Expensive Joke Sees Refugees Dumped in Cambodia

Other | Tuesday 15th March 2016 | Arash

Australia has spent £29 million in order to relocate TWO refugees to Cambodia.

After it signed a four-year deal in 2014, the government in Canberra tried to persuade the hundreds of asylum seekers that they had previously sent to Nauru, a tiny island in the pacific, to start new lives in Cambodia, one of the world’s poorest countries.

However, only five out of the hundreds decided to go, and out of those five, three decided to risk going back to their home countries Iran and Burma, rather than relocating to Cambodia. Is it any wonder?

The deal was criticised by MP oppositions, calling the whole thing an “expensive joke.”
